it was such a pleasure celebrating with the ladies of Edge Design Group as they showcased their brand new studio in Buckhead last week.  Maxine and Gaby has the perfect space to meet with clients and show them exactly how the magic happens. Shawna Herring was on site to capture some of the amazing tablescapes that the duo put together.

Tented Receptions

Posted in Uncategorized

Tented receptions have always been a fascination of mine.  Tents have the power to transform a space, incorporate themes and bring a more private dining experience to your wedding guests. Many brides shy away from using tents because they could bring an undesirable “commercial” look to a wedding. Don’t be scared, just do your homework! Before you pop up a huge white tent, you may want to consider the new trends of using tents. Here are a few of my tips on tented reception ideas:

Trend #1: Indoor Tents. A tent around each table can create more intimate dining area for your guests and can make a ballroom feel smaller. If you need the space of a ballroom, but don’t want the height of a ballroom, this is a great option.

Trend #2: A Tent Within A Tent. This trend is nice if you are trying to create a single special area within your reception, like a lounge area or head table. It creates a great focal point for your photographer as well.

Trend #3: Tents Made of Unique Materials.  Tents don’t have to be white! White can be very boring, if you don’t have room in your lighting budget for creative designs. Try finding a different alternative to the white.

Trend #4: Open Tents. Tents don’t always have to be weather proof. Let your tent be a part of the natural surroundings. If your reception is in a breezy area, let the tent play with the wind. If there’s a blue sky above and stars at night, let your tent be sheer.

Style It Up Or Style It Down

Posted in Uncategorized

This year I am honored to be a bridesmaid for two of my cousin’s weddings. In July, I will be flying to St. Maarten for Iris‘ wedding. Then I will be in Toronto, Canada in August for Madonna’s wedding. Looking for inspiration on a hairstyle for their wedding wasn’t that hard after checking out Beauty Bridal, Project Wedding, and Hairstyles for Weddings latest trends for the season.

According to makeup and hairstylist Carlie Buys, slicked back hair is OUT and natural, soft waves are IN! Carlie suggests adding a hair piece because it creates a huge style statement.

Another hairstyle trend this season are low, slightly messy side buns.

I have made my hairstyle decisions for the weddings! Since the weather in St. Maarten is sunny with a slight breeze from the island’s oceans, I will go for the natural wavy look with a yellow flower hair piece to match Iris’ color scheme. Due to the hot and humid weather in Toronto, it is practical to style my hair up in a messy bun, similar to Jessica Alba’s hairstyle.

Large Scale Dinner Parties

Posted in Uncategorized

When I saw this dinner party set up on Oh Happy Day, I just knew I had to share. My first thought was that is the longest estate table ever. Can you imagine your guests facial expressions once they see this setup? These pictures are from an organization called Outstanding in the Field. They were not kidding about that name!

This post led me to another post of Jordan’s which showcased a small dinner party that she created under the Golden Gate bridge and cleverly called a pop up dinner. How cute and intimate is this design?

Doily’s as Decoration

Posted in Uncategorized

We’ve all seen doily’s used on a silver tray, but there are so many other creative ways to use doily’s. The intricate details of doily’s are beautiful and can catch the eye’s attention. Doily’s are great because they can be dyed to any color you prefer and you can easily shine light through them. So go ahead and invade your grandmother’s doily collection and let these photos inspire you for your own wedding!

This doily chandelier is such an awesome center piece to hang over a table. The doily’s on the back of the chairs match too:

To introduce the theme of doily’s at your wedding, include them in your invitations:

This doily hanging pendant light is a more modern take on using doily’s. I’d even put this in my home:

Go Green & Grow Green

Everyone who knows me knows that I love anything and EVERYTHING that’s organic. So when I stumbled upon this rsvp card on Dream Green Weddings, I knew I had to share.

The paper is embedded with wildflower seeds and made from 100% post-consumer paper waste. Once you receive all the responses from your guests, plant the cards and you will have a garden of wildflowers. Plan an eco-friendly wedding and incorporate these plantable invitations, thank you cards, and favor tags.

We all know that most wedding favors end up in the trash some way or another. Now it’s time to change that habit and start an eco-friendly trend that will have your guests remembering your wedding for a long time.
