Choosing Wedding Colors: A Daunting Task???

One of the things that some brides first stress over is coming up with a color design concept for their wedding. With so many colors in the color spectrum, how can one possibly choose?

Getting across the “picking a wedding color” milestone doesn’t have to be stressful, it just takes some patience along with some creativity to tap into the inner crayola in all of us! Here are some tips:

  • Draw inspiration from your wedding venue. Sometimes the venue where you’re having your wedding at may have themes and colors already in place that you may want to play up or compliment. A venue with a tuscany feel may inspire you to use yellow sunflowers and nuetral colors, while a destination wedding on the beach may inspire sea blue, fushia, or shades that you see in a sunset.
  • Draw inspiration from the season. Although we’re not a stickler to this rule, it can be helpful. Winter weddings may inspire some people to use icy shades of blue and white or deep shades of red complimented with gold or silver. A fall wedding may inspire shades of brown, orange, or auburn red.
  • Draw inspiration from hobbies and interests as a couple. This is always a great place to start. One of the weddings that we’re doing next year, our couple are huge METS fans so it was no surprise that their wedding colors are blue and orange {more on this a little later}.
  • Draw inspiration from other brides. Let’s face it, other weddings inspire people! Three websites that are useful are Style Me Pretty, Bridal Canvas, and Wedding By Color.

Color certainly doesn’t have to be intimidating, just keep in mind what seems authentic to your wedding and the overall feel you want to convey. If you’re not familiar with the name of a certain shade of color, go to Wikipedia and type in the name of the primary color you’re looking for and it will give you a spectrum of that specific color.

On a final note, don’t be afraid to mix colors. You’d be surprised of the various great color combinations. Our blue and orange wedding is turning out so classy that I sometimes forget it’s METS themed. And just as much as you shouldn’t be afraid to mix color, you also don’t have to be afraid of sticking to one color. One of our other brides is simply using two shades of pink and that is turning out equally as lovely. Good luck and happy color picking!
