Did your fiancé propose to you on Christmas day? Statistics show 35-40% of couples get engaged between Thanksgiving and Christmas day.
I was a Christmas day engagee. I originally thought that Jeff did not get me a gift that year. It would have been ok with me because we were young and were not actually “splurging” all year round. But then I turned around to see my older sister with tears in her eyes and Jeff on one knee with a beautiful ring I wasn’t expecting. Yes I was a Christmas day engagee and would not have wanted it any other way.
Ok back to your engagement. Congratulations! This my friend is the beginning of your engagement story. He has picked the right ring, bent down on his knee in front of your loved ones, and now is the time to plan your unique and chic affair.
So what should you do first? The right thing for me to tell you is to run and hire a planner but I will NOT. The best thing you can do as soon as you are engaged, is to sit back and take it all in. Realize the man of your dreams has just proposed and you said yes. It is so easy to get so caught up in the planning that you forget what got you there, the love.
Now that you are all caught up it is now time to get down to logistics. It is funny how the 5 W’s we learned in elementary school will now come to play:
- Why you are getting married – that’s the easy one, prince charming came in on his white horse
- When will the big day be?
- Where will you get married – is it in your current hometown? Where you grew up? Or on a tropical island?
- Who will be in attendance? - Are you looking at an intimate affair or a soiree of 250 guests?
- What will the atmosphere be like? Will it be fun and informal or black time and swank?
No worries if this all seems like too much to answer so quickly. Really your engagement is more about the experience, one that you will always want to remember. Now I highly suggest teaming up with a wedding planner to get some of these questions answered. Don’t worry you will still be planning your affair but now with a wedding BFF that does not care that all conversations are about YOU and YOUR big day.
Ok now tell us all about it! How did it go?
PS if you are already married we still love a good love story.

Hey ellyB
as my cyber-BFF, my wedding coordinator and industry colleague, I thought i knew all there is to know about you. I had no clue that you were engaged on Christmas day, that’s wonderful. My husband and I were engaged on Thanksgiving day. I always thought that proposing on a holiday was a bit cheesy, but it really isnt because now every thanksgiving day, when we are with all of our loved ones, it never fails, the conversation of our engagement comes up and its a moment that i share not only with hubby, but with our families too!
